Despite years of custody disputes between his mother and father, Garrett achieved major milestones athletically and academically. As a defensive end, nose guard, and special teams player for the Fyffe Red Devil Varsity Football team; Garrett helped lead his team to become the 2013 2A Region 7 Champions and State Semifinalist, 2014 2A Region 7 Champions and State Champions, and 2015 2A State Runner-up. He was a member of the Fyffe Golf DeKalb County Champions, who went on to play in the state tournament. Garrett ranked number 11 in his class and held a 3.75 GPA. He was a member of the Senior National Beta Club, FCA, and SADD. Garrett was offered an Athletic Support and Academic Scholarship from Snead State Community College. Garrett applied, interviewed, and was awarded the Rhonda Palmer and Shirley Dalton Scholarship Fund from Family First Medicine in Rainsville, AL.
