Pappy (Renald)

What's the most significant lesson dad taught you?

My dad let me borrow his brand new 1967 Dodge while I was in High School which was incredible since I had my license for only a couple of months. My friend and I proceeded to load up the Dodge with 3-4 classmates of the female variety and we went cruising out on a terrific summer Saturday night. Distracted driving got the best of me while I peered through the rear-view mirror to watch my friend and the girls laughing and pushing each other around while a steam roller loomed ahead. Well, darn it, "bang!" Huge dent in the front fender. I dreaded showing my father the damage to his new car, but came right out and told him the absolute truth. Thought I detected a slight grin, most unusual, even for him. We went out to survey the damage. He looked at it long and hard. Finally he turned to me and said, "At least you're alright. I can fix the car, but I can't fix you or the girls. No car for 6 months!!"
