My favorite memory of my mother is...

Cookies at Christmas Mom celebrated every holiday with baked goods, but excelled at Christmas. I recall her fruitcakes were a favorite at church bake sales, and Christmas confections in great demand from family and friends. My sister and I rolled out plenty of sugar cookie dough, decorated many trees with green sprinkles and iced our share of gingerbread men. By the time our sons reached an age to join in the festivities, our mom’s process was refined to an efficient assembly line. Her grandsons and great grandsons were handed cookie sheets filled with ready-to-decorate, pre-cut cookie dough shapes. In this photo Mom in her holiday apron looks a bit like a general directing the troops but she and the kids all had fun making cookies every year. A few years ago, my youngest son asked for Grandma’s sugar cookie recipe and made a batch with his wife. I think Mom was tickled when she received some in the mail.
