Gwendolyn L. Ifill was born in New York City; graduated from Simmons College in Boston, MA; and enjoyed an illustrious career as a journalist. She died at age 61 from endometrial cancer. 

Sara Just, “PBS NewsHour” executive producer, praised Ifill as a “journalist’s journalist.”
