Reared in Queens, NY....
According to Flores’ Facebook page, [Mercedes Marisol Flores] lived in Davenport, Florida, and was originally from Queens, New York. Her Facebook page also says Flores began to work at Target after she graduated high school in 2008 and continued to study literature at Valencia Community College.
she then became a student at Valencia College....
"She is a happy girl all of the time," he told reporters. "She's a hard worker. She's a hard student."
The father paused, then corrected himself.
"She was a hard student. I'm sorry. She's gone."
Mercedez Flores was studying at Valencia College, her father said. She had "so many ideas" about what interested her that her parents were unsure what career path she would ultimately choose.

"Mercedez Marisol Flores studied literature at Valencia College and had an interest in party planning. She was also an avid music fan, according to her niece, Jennifer Flores.
"Whenever I was in the car with her, she always had the music blasting, and I guess she got the love of music from my father and uncle who are DJs," Flores said in an email. "She was just a really fun nice person and cared a lot about her friends. She really did live her life the way she wanted to."

"It is not fair that such a horrific act of hate would take the life of a beautiful soul," her father Cesar Flores wrote. "No words can describe the pain my family is going through. She had so many dreams," he said. "We must all come together, we must all be at peace, we must all love each other, because this hatred cannot continue for the rest of our lives."
